When I wrote “Issue 1” on the first issue of Cozy Cubs Puzzle Club, I had no specific plan to write a second one, let alone one per month for three years. Fortunately, fate intervened to give me more time to create, and this felt like a natural thing to keep building.
I believe in Analog Fun
I have reached a kind of clarity about why I do this. I believe in Analog Fun. Analog Fun is localized joy. It is the feeling of ink on paper, held in your hands. Analog Fun is choosing to interact here and now, opting for positivity and human connection instead of whatever lies behind the next swipe of an infinite scroll.
Whether you’ve been with us since season one or you just discovered the Cozy Cubs, I am glad you are here. I made a conscious decision early on to let our membership grow slowly. I prefer to write puzzles for people who discovered my weird art and chose to to stick around for more. Thank you for believing in me.
Season Three highlights
This past year has surprised me in ways I could not have imagined. Across dozens of sunny afternoons in Golden Gate Park, I met and hung out with you on your picnic blankets. Two amazing people—Abby and Phoebe—wrote news stories about Cozy Cubs Puzzle Club. Another—Liz—connected me to Joel, who went on to found Lower Haight Local, which includes Cozy Cubs puzzles in every issue.
We held our first-ever club picnic in May (and our next hangout is coming up in two weeks!) We joined our third Sunset Night Market and there are now six local businesses that host Cozy Cubs puzzle stands.
At this point, I personally distribute nearly 1,000 copies of Cozy Cubs every month. When you count the people who find Cozy Cubs in Lower Haight Local, that number is effectively doubled. This feels right, and I am inspired to keep going.
Next step: breaking even
To date, I have self-funded Cozy Cubs. This has given me the freedom to nurture it as an art project: to practice my craft, find my artistic voice, and develop this peculiar niche of Casual Games for Consenting Adults. I feel it has been worth it.
Many of you have asked how you can support Cozy Cubs, and until now I wasn’t sure how to say yes. Today is the soft launch for a way to become a supporting member. My modest goal is to break even.

Thank you for playing!
