About

Hi, I’m Sage Kitamorn, and I write Cozy Cubs Puzzle Club. This is my art project.

Every month I publish a new themed issue with a selection of games like word ladders, crosswords, and logic grids. I share them for free around town and here on my website.

I invite you to print an issue, grab a friend, and enjoy a bit of analog fun.

Print it at work
Let’s be honest, they’ve got the best printer, and they don’t pay you enough anyway. Your public library probably offers free printing too. SF and Seattle both do.

Pick one up locally
Copies are available at several local cafés and shops. While you’re there, support these special places who support Cozy Cubs.

Find me in the park
On nice days, I hand out puzzles on the lawn in front of the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park.

FAQ

Why do you do this?

To create joy. I love writing puzzles and sharing them with people who love solving them.

If you want the longer story, I talked about it in a podcast interview with Abby Sigler for In the Park.

How long does it take to make an issue?

Between a week and a month.

You should make an app!

No thanks. In my prior career, I spent a lot of my energy making apps. With my art, I want to create opportunities for us all to have Analog Fun.

How long have you been doing this?

Since January 2023. I write one issue per month, and there have been 34 so far.

How did Cozy Cubs start?

Once upon a time, I wrote a crossword puzzle for the members of the Wheelhouse Clay Studio. One solver confessed to me that the crossword was too big and too hard. “If you make another thing for us in the future, could you make it easier?” That feedback, plus some free time over the winter holidays, led to the first issue of Cozy Cubs Puzzle Club.

So you're a club ... do you meet?

In May 2025, we held the first Cozy Cubs Picnic. I’d love to do more hangouts — but I tend to over-think these kinds of things. Want to help? I could use a volunteer to help with this.

Do you have a tip jar or Patreon?

Not yet, but I’m considering it for the future. If that’s something you’d be interested in, feel free to let me know so I can gauge interest.

Can I hire you to write a custom puzzle for my [solstice party / dog’s b-day / surprise engagement]?

I take a limited number of commissions for custom work. If you have an idea, send me a note and we can talk.

What is CC BY-NC-SA? Is that like a copyright?

I publish Cozy Cubs under a Creative Commons license. It is different than copyright in that you ARE allowed make copies and share Cozy Cubs. My license has the following attributes:

BY – Attribution - keep my name on it
NC – Non-Commercial - don’t sell it
SA – Share Alike - if you remix it, others can too

Reach out to me if you have something specific in mind and want clarification or explicit permission.

Is it cheating if I look something up?

I don’t expect you to know everything, but I try to include things in my puzzles that I feel are worth knowing. So if you don’t know it yet, look it up. Or better yet, ask the person next to you at the coffee shop. Learn something new, and maybe have a fun interaction with another human.

What does “Casual games for consenting adults” mean?

It’s the Cozy Cubs solgan, and sets the tone for what you’ll find inside. I write Cozy Cubs for adult minds, about things adults do for fun. Ultimately, the slogan is your invitation to choose to participate in Cozy Cubs Puzzle Club, and a reminder that we are all humans who hold agency over our own lives, how we have fun, and how we choose to associate.

Who is Bearnard? Are there other bears in Cozy Cubs? Wait… is the Cozy Cubs universe populated entirely by bears?

Bearnard is the mascot of Cozy Cubs Puzzle Club. My wife (aka Mrs Bear, if you are a newsletter reader) gave Bearnard his name, specifically the real-life stuffed Bearnard we have at home.

Bearnard made his debut in a puzzle in the Leather issue, and has popped up in several since then.

You might spot a few other bear characters in different issues. For example, we had the Beargineer in the Trains issue and Coney Bear in the Ice Cream issue.

Is everyone a bear? Funky Skunk is definitely a skunk.

Are there easter eggs in Cozy Cubs?

Yes.
